It's what's called a "grower".  The third, and by far the largest, meeting of Haringey Alliance for Public Services saw the alliance move out of first gear, with the tiny Big Green Bookshop in Wood Green playing host to about 30 assorted trade unionists, community activists and concerned local residents.

People swapped stories of cuts to come, cuts disguised and cuts postponed. Everyone seemed determined to oppose cuts to public services, to put forward a vision of an improved public sector and to counter the general hysteria that significant cuts to services were unavoidable and would lead to societal collapse.

The Spurs Ground Development is not just about a new stadium. It also involves the building of new housing, a supermarket, luxury hotel and more.

It’s happening on our doorstep and will affect our lives:
- who will our new neighbours?
- for anyone living in temporary accommodation, maybe you're hoping to move into one of the flats one day.
- how will it affect local services, businesses and crime?

The coming election is supposed to be our big opportunity to "exercise our democratic freedom" by voting for the next government.  But general elections only happen about every five years. So if we live until we’re 70 years old, we’ll only get to "exercise our democratic freedom" about ten times in a lifetime.

Last week, Haringey Solidarity Group took action with M, a Haringey mother, facing eviction from a private tenancy. The council had finally agreed to house her, but would not do so until she had been physically evicted. M just wanted a few days' notice to make arrangements, and to put her mind at rest.
