Balfour Beatty are currently the lead company withdrawing from the electrical contracting Joint Industry Board (JIB) national agreement. They have issued 1,690 termination notices to their electricians and, from December 7th, intend to re-employ them on £10 an hour, rather than the current £16.25 (that's a 35% pay cut). Anyone who refuses to accept the new pay rates will be sacked.

This dispute has been running for eight weeks now with hundreds of workers involved in unofficial walkouts, site occupations and protests with a virtual media blackout. Perhaps they don't like showing footage of workers actually fighting back.

This week, UNITE are going to announce a ballot for strike action at Balfour Beatty sites, so the protest at the BB site this Wednesday, 19th October, 7am at Blackfriars bridge is even more important. Come and help the sparks SHUT THE JOB DOWN, then pop down to nearby St Paul's cathedral and visit the occupation!

Come along and show your support for blacklisted building workers and union members fighting to defend their wages.

Balfour Beatty are also one of the biggest blacklisters in the UK building industry. They have a history of sacking workers who raise concerns about health & safety issues. The Information Commissioner's Office issued Notices against six companies within the Balfour Beatty group because of their use of the illegal Consulting Association blacklist used to victimise union members and safety reps.

Balfour Beatty have recently dismissed two workers who raised concerns about safety issues: Alan Dransfield in Devon and Jonathan Carr in Birmingham.
